A full transmission from the XPH Number station can be heard here Another XPH broadcast can be heard here
This one's really interesting. As, most number stations rely on a broadcast of a message, numerically encrypted with a one-time pad being sent over short-wave, this one relies on a series of tones.
What I understand from this, simply by hearing the 2 recordings is that the first few minutes (the repeated 4-tone pattern) is the interval signal, and the much faster burst after that is the message.
It makes you wonder, what is this to be interpreted by? I mean, a series of numbers is easily distinguishable by humans. It's easy to hear what is being said, then write it down. Now, if the whole message were played out at the same speed as the interval signal, I could see it being designed to be "read" by humans. But considering the speed of the message, my best guess would be that this message is to be read by some sort of computer or machine, which acts like a fax machine (sort of) and can interpret the signal, and print out the message.
I want to hear what you guys have to say on this one. It's one of the more interesting number stations that I've heard recorded. |
